Business Objectives
Poppulo’s strategy was to become API-first in their development and customer integrations. Part of that strategy’s implementation was to build a new customer platform. They quickly realized the technology at the heart of the solution should be provided by a robust, flexible OAuth authorization server.
The goal of the project was to enable millions of users to access their services, so the pricing model was a critical factor during the selection process. Managing a per-user pricing model would be challenging since a single Poppulo customer can have several thousand end users. The unlimited user pricing approach Curity takes was a much better fit for the business.
The Challenge
Poppulo had several authentication technologies already in place for different applications, and wanted to modernize and streamline by replacing them with a central login solution.
With a broad and diverse group of users, Poppulo needed a great deal of flexibility, both for authentication and for their internal infrastructure. Before beginning this project, a decision had already been made to eventually move their operations from on-prem to the cloud, which meant that support for different deployment options was essential for any new technology.
The Curity team had a clear idea of what needed to be done to achieve our goal. With a team which was quite new to access management, that was really helpful and helped us understand the problems.
Deployment
In the past, Poppulo deployed its services on-premise, however to meet the needs of their growing customer base, their strategy changed and they decided to move to cloud-based computing.
The flexible deployment options available with the Curity Identity Server meant Poppulo could begin their work on the centralized authentication project on-premise, configure the server successfully, and migrate to a cloud platform when appropriate.
The resources on the Curity website were invaluable when we researched the cloud migration. We could evaluate the different ways of doing it and managed to move our Curity instance from on-premise to the cloud smoothly and happily.
Result
The success of Poppulo’s data-driven communications solution rests on its ability to enable users to access content quickly and securely and to deliver personalized communications. Curity helps Poppulo ensure that their customers can deliver the right message to the right person at the right time, in a secure way.
Business value delivered:
- Policy compliant authentication
- Improved, accurate reporting, and analysis
- Flexibility meets the needs of diverse customer use cases
- Scalable for future needs
The improved login has also enabled more detailed reporting. All of that data needs to be accurate, which is only possible if they can securely identify who the person is.
With the capabilities that the Curity Identity Server offer, Poppulo can now provide a myriad of ways to authenticate and facilitate their customers’ use cases. Customers can easily direct employees to the right content.
They see their use of the Curity Identity Server expand over time. There is a need for seamless authentication for other tools and Single Sign-on for future channels.
We had something set up and running very quickly. The resources on the [Curity] website got us most of the way. We reached out mainly for clarification. That worked well for us.
