Scandic modernizes guest login

Scandic Hotels, operating under the industry-leading brand Scandic, is the largest Nordic hotel operator with a network of about 280 hotels with 58,000 rooms in six countries - Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and Poland. Scandic was founded in 1963 and since then they have been a pioneer in driving development within the hotel industry.

Business Objectives and Challenges

On its journey for digital transformation, Scandic Hotels found that to reach its goal, it needed a modern identity and access management solution with extensive capabilities. It required a product that could unify authentication for its website and mobile apps, allow for large numbers of integrations, and enable growth.

With their customers in focus - frequent guests and members who are always on the go and need smooth, easy login options, user experience also plays a significant role. Therefore, another requirement for a new solution was frictionless authentication capabilities without compromising on security. This would enable Scandic Hotels guests to easily and securely manage their bookings, and check-in and check-out online.

Selection and Solution

The selection process of a new identity and access management provider involved finding a solution that matched the following must-have criteria:

  • Standards-based to enable tailor-made login experiences
  • Flexible and scalable, with excellent integration and customization capabilities
  • Stable and powerful to ensure the always-on approach

Evaluating both SaaS and application-based delivery options, Scandic determined that Curity was the best technical fit. Being a cloud-native application, it could easily run within Scandic's infrastructure. With a part of Curity’s team located in Stockholm, it was very easy to collaborate and get started with the initial installation and flow implementation.

Curity was the option that fitted our needs to ensure the best security.

Results

With the Curity Identity Server, Scandic modernized its technology stack, set up a common identity platform for the website, mobile apps and internal APIs, and achieved seamless authentication for customers. The Scandic team highly values the wide options for customization and integration capabilities of the Curity product.

Setting up goals for the future, Scandic is now looking into adding social logins and passwordless authentication methods. The Scandic team is sure that Curity will continue playing a central role in this and other upcoming projects.

The tutorials and other resources available on the Curity website have proven to be very handy when implementing new functionality. The Scandic team also highly values the developer portal for the ease of raising support tickets and Curity's support team that answers any questions if needed.

The Curity Identity Server is a stable and powerful product that has allowed us to improve internal processes and level up the customer experience which is super important for our client-oriented business.
